We employed the services of Marianne to design and manage the renovation of the top tier of our garden. From the start, we were unsure exactly what we wanted the final project to look like but with the smallest of briefs, she planned and delivered a fantastic space which blends the traditional and the contemporary. From an area which was hard to maintain and use, we now have the perfect spot for relaxing, dining and entertaining.
Access to the top level was the main challenge for this project. A lot of labour went into getting materials up three sets of stairs! The access was improved with new staircases, gates and LED lighting before taking on the building of a party space on the top level. We created raised beds and built-in seating to maximise the number of people able to sit down without thinking about furniture. The structure was built out of upright sleepers in order to bring curves into the design to break up what was in essence a long thin space.
The backing for the main seat/lounge area ensures comfort and breaks up the expanse of wall. The large paved circle accommodates a fire pit in the summer. The addition of a summerhouse provides storage, a hang-out pad for the teenage boys as well as shelter from the prevailing winds. Behind that is a fully decked and screened BBQ area
